The term comes from Latin, literally meaning “in life”.
It denotes a condition or process that approximates a real-life environment, often created for an experiment or research study. [ APA Dictionary of Psychology, American Psychological Association, April 2018]
This type of therapy involves supporting clients to directly face a thing, situation or activity that is feared, avoided, or anxiety producing.
This is an evidence-based form of Cognitive and Behavioural therapy that is designed to reduce fear, avoidance, and negative emotions associated with personal triggers (e.g., as a result of trauma). We are proudly experienced in using this approach with our clients, whenever this is appropriate. Despite what many fear, in vivo exposure therapy is done in a collaborative, and non-confronting way. It is a practical and empowering approach that really helps clients without requiring years of therapy.
You can get your life back!
